Since the 1920s, Rancho Santa Fe has become one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. Enjoying moderate coastal climate just several miles from the ocean, Rancho Santa Fe has been a destination of successful people and celebrities since Douglas Fairbanks Senior purchased 650 acres of ranch land in San Dieguito River Valley in 1926. Recognized as a State Historical Landmark in 1989 by the State of California, Rancho Santa Fe has had its identity preserved by its residents, through a Protective Covenant established in 1928 by the Rancho Santa Fe Association.
Now commonly referred to as "The Covenant", its members uphold the quality of architectural and land improvements to maintain its natural landscape and rural character. Rancho Santa Fe is in close proximity to Del Mar Race Track, the Polo Fields, and miles and miles of trails within a preserved open space. So it's no suprise that many of the residents in "The Ranch", as they like to put it, own and ride horses regularly.
Rancho Santa Fe is also home to many world class golf courses. One of those courses is part of the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, with membership only available to Covenant home owners. Coldwell Banker Rancho Santa Fe is located in a designated historical landmark, designed by Lillian Rice, located in "The Village".
