Carbondale (formerly, Buckeye) is an unincorporated community in Amador County, California. It is located northwest of Ione on the Southern Pacific Railroad, at an elevation of 223 feet (68 m). The places early economy was related to coal mining and shipment. A post office operated at Carbondale from 1922 to 1955. Currently, only one residence remains in the general area of the town. Other than the remains of a school house, no other structures exist.
