ROSEVILLE, Calif. – April 12, 2012 – It was announced today that Christopher Hayhoe, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Roseville, has earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Gold Merit Level, for his more than 900 hours of work last year with Sacramento County law enforcement as a community chaplain.
This is the second year in a row he’s been honored with the award from President Obama.
Hayhoe, who has worked with the program for four years, volunteers in the evenings at least twice a week and is often called out by law enforcement officers to attend to family members, classmates, neighbors and co-workers when they have been victimized, suffered serious injury, or have been traumatized by the death of a loved one.
“I’m incredibly proud to be part of the community chaplains program and it’s an honor to be recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award,” said Hayhoe. “It’s often times not easy work, but it’s important to remember that it’s really about helping people when they need it most. I find it very rewarding to provide whatever assistance I can at such a difficult time.”
“The Sacramento community chaplains do tremendous work helping members of the community in their time of need,” said Marc Heinzer, manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Roseville Granite Bay office. “Working with Christopher on a professional level, I know how important his volunteerism and community service work is to him. I’m proud to see him accept such a distinguished national honor.”
As part of the program, community chaplains have completed 150-hours of class, lab, and field training through the Faith in Crisis Academy. They serve all crime victims and those distressed by traumatic events alongside police personnel during actual crisis.
They also bring a calming presence to potentially volatile scenes, serve as liaisons between survivors and public safety personnel, help contact and convene survivors' family, friends and clergy, provide referrals to agencies offering long-term support, and offer other practical assistance as necessary.
In addition to his volunteer work, Hayhoe is a licensed real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Roseville. Prior to joining the company, he was the broker/owner of Christopher Hayhoe Real Estate for 18 years and represented several new home communities in Granite Bay, Roseville and El Dorado Hills.
